Pure Blue Fish technology

PBF’s advanced zero-water discharge Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) is a commercially developed RAS that started as a patent for growing fish in a completely closed and controlled environment developed by the agriculture faculty branch of the Hebrew University, based in Rehovot, Israel. PBF acquired this advances idea and intensively developed it for commercial aquaculture. The PBF engineering team has now refined the technology to form its own innovative marine aquaculture RAS modules, ready for wide-scale commercial deployment.

PBF is bringing the first, fully, zero-water discharge RAS to the commercial aquaculture market. By successfully growing high-end species with this unique technology. With high survival rates and excellent health, PBF will provide consumers with the freshest and most sustainably-raised seafood on the market. Using its aerobic and non-aerobic filtration modules leveraging efficient, energy-saver water flow engineering, Pure Blue Fish can achieve at these distinct advantages over traditional RAS.

Freshness: Four to six hour delivery from PBF farms to customer. PBF farms will be located near major urban markets. Our farms can be based anywhere.

sustainability: Very low environmental footprint, zero-impact on the environment, zero pollutants.

Locality: PBF locates its farms close to markets enabling us to move our fish to end-consumers without the use of traditional shipping methods such as planes or ships. This means a much lower carbon footprint. Our markets, our workers and most of our suppliers are local.

One hundred percent controlled product: We fully control the fish’s enviroment,from the water our fish are swimming in to everything they are eating. PBF fish are a one-hundred percent safe product to consume. 

No need for pumping water from oceans, lakes, streams, etc: Tap water or local well water is sufficient for our production.

Zero risk for invasive species to the surrounding environment (a common problem for traditional aquaculture operations): PBF technology solves the problems of non-endemic fish and pathogens, with zero biological risk to the environment.

Traceability: PBF tightly controls the fish in each stage of growth, which means that PBF is selling fresh fish with one hundred precent tractability from fingerling to final product.

Pure Blue Fish Farm Process

PBF farms are designed with internal regulation using tightly controlled biosecurity measures. Fingerlings are introduced to the farm modules and initially quarantined four to six weeks. The fish are then moved to the nursery module for a period of eight to ten weeks. After that, the fish then move to the growing tanks. During their growth the fish swim in one direction through the farm and each section has specifically assigned farm workers to monitor their zone and do not move to other sections; this helps assure the high biosecurity levels maintained at our farms. We also monitor all our tools and equipment. There is a sterilization station in every erea,  for the working equipment as well as for the worker’s boots, gloves and work clothes.

All the fish go through two to five days of purging and monitoring before they are harvested and shipped to market.

In addition, each PBF farm has a local lab that does multiple water tests daily (about ten to fifteen tests per module, per day). A weekly pathogen test per batch is performed locally in our lab as well as external testing with an independent veterinarian partner. At PBF we take testing so seriously that we further test using an independent external lab to test the water once a month, to further ensure our high standard of rigorous testing and to make sure the fish are growing under the best possible conditions.
